Thoughts While Shaving

Happy Valentine’s Day….2015.

Government is an easy target for all….always something happening and many times we (the public) do not understand, to often we do not seem to care…..

A few “pot” shots today…

Our distinguished Supreme Court Justice Ruth Ginsburg, like many of us, took a nap during the State of the Union address…Now we learn she was a little “tipsy” having had a little to much wine to drink…

Our distinguished NC State Senator is telling us and his colleagues that we need to change the way we raise funds for our roadways, ferrys, etc. suggesting a flat tax on gasoline and passing it off as a tax cut. My question is….How much of the current gasoline tax is being used for our roadways…The fuel tax in recent years has been a piggy-bank for legislators who cut taxes to close or over spend or do some of both…Senator, think we need a better explanation…that doggie may not fly…

And closer to home, we were told several months ago our new reval values would be delivered in December, 2014…then mid January, then late January…My calendar shows we are midway through the month of February….Still no tax values….

Back to state issues….I see where the legislature is coming up short on revenues…nothing new..and not a bad situation….In addition to the gasoline tax piggy bank, there is the lottery piggy bank that a portion (40%) was to be used for new school construction and renovation, but the percentage originally designated to local governments, continues to shrink…

And should not forget the Golden LEAF Foundation. The funds come from tobacco companies in a settlement with the US government and the funds were to offset the lose of golden weed revenues in areas of the state most effected….mostly in the far east and far west….(my interpretation)…Golden LEAF has been good for rural areas of the state including Bladen County…A new board majority is in place and recently designated $50 million for a new auto manufacturing effort being promoted by the state…The site, not in the east or west….In or near Randolph County….Golden LEAF is a big piggy bank for many…including the Legislature…

Didn’t just begin with this Legislature…been ongoing for years…but the minority party, (D or R) is the one usually “kicking and screaming.”

A reminder of the fund raiser today for Marvin and Marsha Burney at the School of Discovery in Clakton beginning at 11 a.m. Hope to see you there….

It makes my heart sick when I remember all the good words and the broken promises. Chief Joseph

Promises are like crying babies in a theater, they should be carried out at once. Norman Vincent Peale
