Thoughts While Shaving

I missed my first football season opener in about 50 years last night.  I enjoy high school football, and plan on returning as a fan next weekend.  Attended church camp last night and will again tonight and Sunday.

West Bladen scored a good season opening win over South Robeson while East Bladen had one slip away against a tough South Columbus team coached by Bladen native Russell Dove.  John Clark has the complete coverage on our sports page.

I missed radio coverage.  Dan Allen’s tweets were good.  He moved from the radio booth to the public address seat at East Bladen games and I just kept bothering him.

John Clark has been covering Bladen County sports for as long as I can remember.  No one does it better.  He wrote about Robby Priest, Todd Pait and Russell Dove when they were playing.  All now coach.

Remember when there were 6 man football teams in Bladen County?  Some very good 6 man teams.

We need rain, and one source of evidence is the water level at White Lake.  Not bad now, but more would be better.

Remember last year?  Farmers do I am sure.  It began to rain and many crops were left in the field, never harvested.  Despite the lack of rain, this year is better, as of now.

There is much to do in the area.  Cape Fear Winery and Lu Mil are providing good entertainment.  Check their websites for details.

Don’t knock the weather. If it didn’t change once in a while, nine tenths of the people couldn’t start a conversation.
