The threat of bad weather causes many to change their schedule…..Even if the bad weather is forecast for a short period of time…gotta have milk and bread….
Many years ago, before the Internet and the many new means of communications, I was the early morning DJ at WBLA radio station and Mr. Billy Haire was Superintendent of Bladen Schools.
As soon as I signed on at 6 a.m. I began to receive calls asking about the status of the school system….even if it was clear many times that schools would be on a regular schedule…the calls came…and at that time of the morning..I was the only person at the station…answering with “I don’t know” and cuing up 45 rpm records…….it was a zoo….
Mr. Haire would ride the roads, beginning well before my 6 a.m. sign on, but we had no way to communicate…until he returned to his office at the Board of Ed…..no cell phones…Those were the days…Good ole days?????
We still gotta have the bread and milk, but new technology has changed the world we live in….hopefully for the better…
