Thoughts While Shaving

Thoughts While Shaving Last call for Bladen County taxpayers.  Pay up or pay more.  2016 property taxes are due today, tomorrow they will be past due with a penalty.

Prepare for cold, cold weather and maybe sleet and/or snow.  Check the weather often.  Highs over the next few days are expected to be near or below freezing with lows in the 10  to 15 degree range.  Plan accordingly.  Begins Friday PM with the lowest temps from Saturday through Monday with sleet/snow most likely Friday night and Saturday. Depends on the final direction of the front.

Yesterday was a good day for ‘country cooking’.  Big lima beans seasoned just right, served up under a barn shelter in the Tar Heel area at noontime, and smoke sausage and cabbage for the evening meal at church.  And for dessert, a big bowl of ice cream mid-afternoon, looked good on the scales this AM.  Retirement is good, thank you.

The new Bladen County jail will be opening later this year, much needed new jail I might add.  I hope there will be more of an effort by the folks related to the court system, to move inmates through the system and out of the jail.  Did you know it cost about $50 a day to house local inmates, and some stay in our jail for years, yes years?  And, the cost of housing inmates prior to adjudicating the case is paid by the county.  Do not understand.  Hopefully a new jail with more capacity does not make it more attractive for court officials to leave them there longer.

Wish Coach K successful back surgery.  The team appears to be hitting on all cylinders.  Grayson Allen’s suspension lasted one game.  Jeff Capel will coach the team in Coach K’s absence.

It was so cold, we had to chop up the piano for firewood — it only gave us two cords.

It was colder than a tin toilet seat in the Antarctic.

It was so cold I bought sweet rolls at the train station and froze my buns before I reached my office.
