Thoughts While ShavingIt’s official, today is the first day of spring, 2017. Temps should be on the rise after a week long ‘cold spell’.

Now, there are 16 teams remaining in the NCAA Playoffs, only one North Carolina team. UNC will face Butler next Saturday and Duke heads home after losing last night to the Gamecocks of South Carolina.

Some great games yesterday. Seems to me college basketball becomes more of a contact sport the higher you go in the playoffs.

Bladen County Commissioners meet at 6:30 PM today. The courthouse meeting is open to the public. Sooner or later, Bladen County leaders will be forced to address the public school situation.

Speaking of schools, the new charter school building is progressing nicely, located between NC 87 and Airport Road, east of Elizabethtown.

35 years ago, the Bladen County Hospital was the target of several hospital chains. Small hospitals across the state were being ‘courted’ by Tennessee chains, regional North Carolina hospitals and in northeastern NC, Virginia based hospital chains. In fact, hospitals in Bertie County, Washington County, Chowan County and maybe others, were sold. Much has changed, not sure if better or worse. Thank goodness, Bladen County Hospital continues to provide service to locals and others as a part of Cape Fear Valley Hospital group.
