Remember Frank Thompson? He was Bladenboro High School football coach in the early to mid 60s. He was a graduate of Chadbourn High School, if my memory is correct, later captain of Wake Forest U football team and was the Demon Deacons Most Valuable player in 1958. He was an offensive lineman. WFU sports records indicate he was drafted in the 26th round of the ’58 NFL draft by the Cleveland Browns. Not sure he played at that level. Say all that to say…I saw him last weekend. He lives in Sanford, NC, looking fit, but like all, aging ever so slightly.
For us senior citizens, we have seen so many changes. Examples, some remember doing homework by a kerosene lamp or lantern with a smoky shade, some had a nice aladdin lamp, to a single bulb with a pull switch, to the modern conveniences of today where you walk in the room and the light automatically comes on. And folks are busy developing more and better ways to light our world.
Bladen County Commissioners meet tonight. A busy time with the 2017-18 budgeting process underway, a new jail opening very soon and what do we do about school needs, merger, renovations and upgrades, building new schools?????
Some things never seem to change, I remember those days, no interest in going back.
Thought much about the Saturday effort in Bladenboro, raising over $43,000 for a youngster who suffers from Leukemia. Even for the volunteers, must be a record.
Speaking of Leukemia, just seems like so many suffering from cancer related illnesses. All need our prayers.
