Thoughts While Shaving

Thoughts While ShavingI hear the sound of falling rain outside and so happy. Rain began about 5 AM and is expected to continue today and tonight. We really need the wet stuff. Looking forward to farm crops ‘peeping’ through the soil.

Wesley’s Chapel UMC youth were in charge of Sunday’s worship service, and based on what I saw and heard, our future is in good hands. A very good service. Just wish all youngsters were of the same caliber. Far to many wondering aimlessly through life, with little or no support.

Remember Readers Digest? Apparently the publishers are pushing for more market share. Included is a new publication “Ultimate Word Power.” The introduction includes, “An estimated 750 million people speak English around the world. Of those 350 million consider it their mother tongue. The average educated English-speaking person knows about 20,000 words. The typical person uses just 2,000 of those words in a week.”

I mentioned in my Sunday ‘Thoughts’ about a report from the NC State Board of Elections. Technical problems kept it from being published, so I do a shorter version.

After all the accusations about irregularities in our NC elections process by political ‘hacks.’ There were 508 illegal votes cast, statewide, in the most recent election (Nov. ’16). 24 voters voted twice, 441 felons voted illegally, 41 non-citizens and 2 impersonators voted bringing the total (statewide) to 508.

In Bladen County, one (1) illegal vote was cast, ONE (1) out of 15,969 votes cast. One felon voted that should not have. One is too many, but we are all human. So, the loud mouth, local, state and national politicians, and their supporters were wrong, again.

Our Bladen County elections staff and board conducted a good election campaign, despite those who attempted to cast a shadow on their efforts. Shame on all who falsely accused.

Elections are won by men and women chiefly because most people vote against somebody rather than for somebody. Franklin Pierce Adams

Elections remind us not only of the rights but the responsibilities of citizenship in a democracy. Robert Kennedy

Elections have consequences. Scott Walker
