Wilmington is hosting their first PGA Championship in 46 years. The Azalea Open was last played in 1971.
The Wells Fargo has been held at the Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte since its inception in 2003.
The tournament was moved to Wilmington because the Charlotte course is hosting the 2017 PGA Championship later this year.
Eagle Point Golf Club near Wilmington has never hosted a tour event, It is a private course designed by Tom Fazio. It’s 7,259 yards and opened in 2000. Early reports indicate players and fans are providing positive reviews.
PGA Tour members Webb Simpson and Carl Pettersson are members at Eagle Point.
The Pro-Am is being played today. The 72 hole PGA event begins tomorrow with the best of the best playing, including the #1 golfer in the world, Dustin Johnson.
