Thoughts While ShavingEver feel you are overwhelmed by news reports from around the world, Washington, DC and Raleigh, NC, and it seems it is mostly ‘bad’ news?

Head of FBI fired, Russia intervening in our elections and others around the world, do we have an Independent investigation or leave to Congress and the President, some who’s names are being ‘batted around’ as participants? In Raleigh, one squabble after another.

Plane crashes in Myrtle Beach, fire kills several in campground, drug arrest continue in our area, Dog Pound is sick and closed, what do we do about our schools? Hard to look to our religious leaders for direction, they are busy as many of our churches are strugglin’.

Let’s turn our attention to the good all around us and there is much to be proud of.

Emily Scott, East Bladen student, is recognized as finalist for a US Army-Pro Football Hall of Fame Award for Excellence. Many of our young folks are in various state athletic playoff events, local adults and youngsters are involved in Dixie Youth activities, volunteers are preparing for numerous worthy events that make us all better, ex. Relay For Life Walk, Friday at East Bladen Middle School; White Lake Water Festival just days away, the upcoming Blueberry Festival in Ammon.

And, for those who fail to follow the law, a new, enlarged jail is nearing completion. Not sure which category that falls into.

Let’s concentrate on the good. Bladenboro Rotary Club is sponsoring their Annual Golf Tournament to provide scholarships for worthy West Bladen seniors in the name of JW & Martha Black.

You don’t have to look far to see good. Maybe we can’t forget all the bad news, or do a whole lot about it, but what we can do is work together and concentrate on making Bladen the best it can be. Let’s let our little light shine.

Check our Events page for more good news.

It isn’t hard to find injustice around us, but we must not let injustice smear the good deeds that do occur everyday. Rand Paul

It takes many good deeds to build a good reputation, and only one bad one to lose it. Benjamin Franklin

Always do your best. What you plant now, you will harvest later. Og Mandino
