Thoughts While Shaving
Spread the love

Thoughts While ShavingRelay For Life for 2017 was another successful event. It was held yesterday at Elizabethtown Middle School. This has been an Annual Event for many, many years and hopefully goals were met in the fight to defeat cancer. Some successes have been made, more are needed. Another example of volunteers doing good.

Can’t help being a little frustrated when we are told proceeds from certain products will benefit designated needs. Example, gasoline taxes over the years were to be used to improve our roads, then we learn that some portion of the proceeds are used to balance the state budget, nothing new, been going on for many, many years. Secondly, remember how the approval of the lottery was “pitched.” A large portion of the proceeds were to benefit our public schools. Over the years, a portion of that ‘pot of money’ have been moved to the state budget, so I have been told, for other purposes. Now, we are told there is a substantial budget surplus, but money is still needed to repair our roads, and for our schools and school personnel appear to be ‘shortchanged’ and tax breaks appear to be going to big business and the wealthy. Maybe I have over stated, check for yourself.

Sad story related to local school situation where a teacher is accused of ‘bad conduct.’ Remember, she is innocent until proven guilty. Good job by school folks and law enforcement.

Continue to pray for our nation.

Hope you can celebrate Mother’s Day with your MOM.

West Bladen girls were defeated yesterday by Washington 8-3. That ends play for the team. They had a very good year, completing play with a 20-4 record.
