Thoughts While Shaving
Spread the love

Thoughts While ShavingWoke up this morning to hear my favorite bird chirping, singing, not sure which, but helped me to rise and give thanks for another day. Small things mean a lot.

We have birds, squirrels, some deer that ‘bed down’ in a creek behind our house from time to time, see very few rabbits, but a few turtles, waterfowl and more. Happy I live where I do and have all to enjoy.

A storm roared through the area late yesterday, rainfall varied greatly, I am sure. At the Hester household slightly southwest of E-town, we received about 1.4 inches, and it came in a short period of time.

Can you believe we are just days away from the midway point of 2017? The second half of the calendar year begins next Saturday.

Someone shared a nice article from the N&O related to Emerson Martin and his bride assisting youngsters interested in playing college sports. The Emerson Martin I know, played football locally, played in the NFL, now apparently lives in the Wake County area.

And, if news reports are correct, MacKenzie Gore of Whiteville has agreed to a $6 million – plus signing bonus with the San Diego Padres. The Wolfpacker was the #3 draft pick in the recent Major League Baseball draft. At 18 years of age, guess that makes him the youngest millionaire in the area. Congratulations to him and his family.

Congratulations to Dan Allen who was recognized for outstanding service during the recent Miss North Carolina pageants.

And, a reminder of a ceremony at the Tar Heel Fire Department to dedicate the bridge over the Cape Fear River at Tar Heel as the David B. Melvin bridge. Mr. Melvin lost his life in 1954, attempting to save the ferry, which had drifted across the river. The ceremony is scheduled for 2 PM Monday, public is welcome.
