Thoughts While Shaving

Today is Independence Day, a federal holiday commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.  Congress actually declared independence two days earlier on July 2.

Today our nation will celebrate with fireworks, parades, barbecues, picnics, baseball, family reunions.  For many, just another work day.

One of the highlights in Bladen County is the Annual Fireworks show at White Lake, shortly after 9 PM today.

Filing season for municipal elections is fast approaching, actually begins Friday, July 7 and continues through July 27.  Call or visit the Bladen County Board of Elections for all the info you need.

In the truest sense, freedom cannot be bestowed, it must be achieved.  Franklin D. Roosevelt

Those who won our independence believe liberty to be the secret of happiness and courage to be the secret of liberty.  Louis D. Brandeis

This, then, is the state of the union: free and restless, growing and full of hope.  So it was in the beginning.  So it shall always be, while God is willing, and we are strong enough to keep the faith.  Lyndon B. Johnson
