In the world of politics, there is much bally-hoo about the first 100 days. Promises are made in ‘my first 100 days’, some are kept, some are not. Been that way for about as long as I can remember. Well, we will soon approach the 200 day mark of the Trump administration. By my calendar, today marks day #176. Historians have the advantage of looking back. Success for President Trump and Congressional leaders will depend to a great degree on repeal and replacement of Obamacare and Tax Reform, especially with Republicans in control of the House and Senate and a Republican in the White House. Much is riding on those two issues for our national leaders. Will be hard to blame Democrats for the final results. They have not been invited to participate, as Republicans remember from the past.
Today, former East Bladen football star Desmond Bryant is home to lead a football camp for youngsters ages 8-18, on the field where he played high school sports a few years ago. Bryant is currently a defensive lineman for the Cleveland Browns, returning to the line-up after suffering a torn pectoral muscle that kept him off the field for the later portion of the past NFL season. Bryant is listed on the Brown’s roster as 6-6, 310 pounds, 31 years of age and in his 9th year in the NFL. For your info, he is a graduate of Harvard University.
One week down and one to go for registration as a candidate in local municipal elections. Filing ends at 12 noon Friday, July 21. The election will be held in November. There are so many qualified candidates for political office who know all there is to know about political issues and office holders, but for whatever the reason, will not add their names to the roster. You and I know many, heard them express their opinion, but they refuse to add their name to the ballot. Incidentally, the cost of filing, a measly $5. File now, share with voters your thoughts/ideas and if your are elected, you will have a say in local decisions. Don’t miss this opportunity, your chance to be on the ‘big stage’.
