Thoughts While Shaving

Thoughts While ShavingJuly 31, 2017 is here, August just ahead.  Football practice, school begins for some, for farmers almost time to harvest what appears to be a very good crop.

Attempting to follow the play of Cade Hancock at the Optimist International Junior Golf play at the PGA National Resort & Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.  Cade is playing in the boys 16-18 age group.  Today is the second day of the 4 day tournament.  He shoot 79 yesterday, tied for 74th position in the 150+ field of golfers from around the world.  Low score yesterday was 67, there was a 68, a 70, 3 tied at 71 and 4 more at 73.

He teed off this morning at 8:03 AM with a playing partner from Utah and another from Kentucky.  The top 50 competitors will play for the ‘top spot.’  A consolation event is played for those outside the top 50.  Not sure if the top 50 compete after the 2nd or 3rd round of play.  Play is on at least 3 championship golf courses.

Cade is the son of Jim and Polly Hancock of Elizabethtown and is a student at Harrells Christian Academy.

Girls play for ages 15-18 is also being held.

Many Bladen County residents depend on Star Communications for phone service, Internet, TV and home security.  A change in management is taking place this week.  Long time VP and General Manager Lyman Horne is stepping down Friday, August 4th after 37 years of service.  The new CEO will be Jeff Nethercutt, a Star employee since 1994.  A good article in the Sampson Independent newspaper.

Locally, the average high and low temps for August is 88 and 68, off slightly from July of 90 and 69.
