Area farmers, for the most part, should be pleased with the crop season, seems rain came as needed. We do need rain now in many locations. We did record 4/10s of an inch of rainfall Sunday morning at the Hester household on Happy Valley Road, near Elizabethtown.
Our chance of rain is 20% today; 60% tonight, 80% Tuesday.
Some year round schools are beginning week 2. Bladen County public school students return Monday, August 28.
East Bladen’s football team will be competing in the Battle of the Carolinas at Lumberton High School, Thursday, August 10. Other NC teams will include Scotland, Fairmont, West Brunswick, Lumberton and Purnett Swett. South Carolina teams include Dillon, Lakeview, Latta, and Marlboro. The scrimmage begins at 5 PM. Each team has 100 tickets on sale for $5. At the gate, tickets will be $7.
