Thoughts While ShavingNot sure I remember a time when there was more headline news….Hurricane Harry in Texas, North Korea, gas prices, Hurricane Irma, Healthcare discussions, Tax Reform, Contaminants in Cape Fear River, Mountain to Sea Trail, and on and on.

I know my list is incomplete, but action last night by the Bladen County Board of Commissioners will top them all in our area,  ‘Bladen County Commissioners voted: Sledge to receive $4 million’.

Remember Joseph Sledge?  He is the person convicted of murdering Josephine and Aileen Davis on September 6, 1976, served over 30 years in prison, released and pardon by the courts, now suing Bladen County for “wrongfully convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment.”  He was convicted on ‘circumstantial evidence’ and many years later additional evidence was discovered that apparently proved his claims of innocence.  Read the story in our News section today.

High School football tonight.  Both Bladen County teams looking for their 2nd win of the season.
Midway at Bladenboro and North Brunswick at East Bladen.  Gametime is 7 PM.

Congressman Robert Pittenger came to Bladen yesterday, provided an update of Washington activities, and responded to questions and comments from local residents.

Recently thought about Todd Finn, remember the former West Bladen principal?  He left Bladen after a year at the school (about 2012) for a similar position at New Hanover High School in Wilmington, NC.

My research indicates he left New Hanover for a position in Henry County, Georgia (Hampton High School), left there February 2016 and now holds a similar position at Mill River High School, North Clarendon, Vermont.  From our ‘Where are they now department’.

So what are your plans for Labor Day?

If a train station is where the train stops, and a bus station is where the bus stops, what is a work station?

We celebrate Labor Day by not working, which is kind of like celebrating Arbor Day by paving the backyard.

If all the cars in the United States were placed end to end, it would probably be Labor Day Weekend.
