Thoughts While Shaving

Dedication for the new Bladen County Law Enforcement Center and Detention Center on Friday was a huge success, well attended.

The 25th Dublin Peanut Festival is just a week away.  One of Bladen’s most popular events annually.  Google their website for the line-up that begins with a parade, followed by BBQ plate lunch and continues throughout the day.  Volunteers have been working hard for weeks and at the end of the festival, proceeds support worthy efforts in our area.

Three Rivers 1A-2A conference is more like yesteryear with teams from Bladen, Robeson and Columbus counties.  East and West Bladen compete in the 2A division.

Last night, West suffered their 1st loss of the year 22-8 at the hands of the Fairmont Golden Tornadoes and East eaked out a 14-6 win over old rival Whiteville to remain undefeated.  East is 3-0 for the season, West drops to 2-1.

Next week West travels to Red Springs and East hosts South Columbus in a game that many think could determine the conference championship.  South (3-0) is coached by Russell Dove, former West Bladen coach and is off to a great start this year with wins over Douglas Byrd, Loris, SC, and Red Springs.

The Eagles (3-0) have posted wins over Clinton, North Brunswick and Whiteville.

All eyes remain on Hurricane Irma,  churning toward the tip of Florida after much destruction in the islands.  The current projected path of the storm indicates we will, for the most part, escape the with some rain and wind gust early next week, nothing like what was anticipated 3 or 4 days ago.

Love the song by the Collingsworth Family, God Sees the Storm from the Other Side.

I am not afraid of storms for I am learning how to sail my ship.  Louisa May Alcott

We all face storms in life.  Some are more difficult than others, but we all go through trials and tribulations.  That’s why we have the gift of faith.  Joyce Meyer
