Thoughts While ShavingFinal NFL score Thursday evening: Houston Texans 13 – Cincinnati Bengals 9.  Unless there is much improvement by both teams, Texan and Bengals fans need not worry about a trip to the Super Bowl this season.

Dublin Peanut Festival tomorrow (Saturday), all day long at Dublin School.

Mark your calendar for Saturday, October 14.  NC Grape Festival at Lu Mil Vineyard….Grape Stompin’, Blackwater Rhythm @ Blues Band.  U Pick Grapes NOW.  Check their website for details.

High School football tonight.  Both Bladen County teams in conference action.  South Columbus at East Bladen and West Bladen at Red Springs.  Gametime for both 7 PM.

Discharge by The Chemours Company into the Cape Fear River is measured in ‘parts per billion’, (ppb).  Will be interesting to continue research to determine ‘who’ and ‘what’ is being added to the river that we may not know about, by whomever.  Clean water should be protected, no question, however, if DEQ rules have not been exceeded, going back to the early 2000s, what’s next?  Millions of dollars have been spent on facilities, hundreds of employee jobs could be affected. Determine if discharge is within the scope of permits, if not, it should be.  Then make sure everyone abides by same rules, up-stream and down-stream.  This is not a political game, it is serious business for the public, for The Chemours Company, their employees and for Bladen County.

I realize it is not that easy, but hopefully, doable.  Repeating, we need clean water, good companies to provide good jobs, and clear rules by the rule-makers.

(applause)  Thank you, thank you…hold the applause…..Just thoughts by an ‘over the hill’ observer.

We can create new ways to create clean water.  Craig Venter

I couldn’t imagine not having clean water.  Chris Tucker

Everyone wants clean air and clean water, but my hope is that we will not regulate it to the point where we drive businesses and industries out of this country, to the point where entrepreneurs cannot start or expand their businesses because they simply can’t afford to do so.  Bob Latta
