Thoughts While Shaving

Technology is a wonderful tool, ’til something goes wrong.  Most of my issues are self-inflicted.

Shriners appeared to have sponsored another very successful fish fry fund-raiser.  Proceeds benefit Shriner’s hospitals where youngsters are treated free of charge.  Nearest one to Bladen County is Greenville, S.C.  Yes, local youngsters have been treated.

Seems as I age, I am spending more time at funerals.

Carolina Panthers have had a short week to prepare for the Philadelphia Eagles.  Kick-off is set for 8:25 PM today.  The game will be on CBS, NFLN or AMZN.  Both teams are 4-1.

While on the topic of football, high school action continues.  Jayvee action at 6 PM today.  St. Pauls at E-town and West Bladen plays at West Columbus.  Tomorrow, the East Bladen Eagles (6-1, 4-1) varsity team travels to St. Pauls (4-3,4-1) and West Bladen Knights (3-4, 1-4) entertain the Vikings (0-7, 0-5) of West Columbus.  Gametime for both games is 7 PM.

Soccer, tennis, and volleyball action continues as well.  Check our Sports section for time and place as well as results.  No one does it better than John Clark.

Lots of activity this weekend in Bladen including the NC Grape Festival at Lu Mil.  Numerous activities for every age group from 8 AM ’til 3 PM, plus music by the BlackWater Rhythm @ Blues Band.  See their ad on BladenOnline and make plans to be there.  I competed once in the Grape Stomp competition.  Prefer to eat the grapes.

Warm weather continues through Monday with partly cloudy skies, a slight chance of rain each day and temps in the low to mid 80s.  High next Tuesday, low 70s and overnight low in the 50s.

Municipal elections are just days away, signs popping up in most localities.  Direct election related questions to Bladen County Board of Elections.

The one sure way of participating in the process of nation-building is to vote on election day.  Mohit Chauhan

Popularity should be no scale for the election of politicians.  If it would depend on popularity, Donald Duck and The Muppets would take seats in the Senate.   Orson Wells

A politician thinks of the next election.  A statesman, of the next generation.  James Freeman Clarke
