Thoughts While Shaving

Ever feel you are on ‘information overload’?   With normal news channels and papers, then add Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Messenger, Instagram, Texting, (and there are other sources), it’s just about more than I can comprehend.  I just read, and other than Happy Birthday on Facebook, I add little to the discussion.  I know, I could just delete them all or some, but I haven’t and not likely, just need something else to complain about.

Beast Fest in Bladenboro is set for a week from this Friday and Saturday.  The ‘beast’ story was the talk of the area, at least in the ‘boro area in the winter of 1953-54.  I was 15 years old, working at Hinson’s Super Market part-time after school and on Saturday.  No license, no vehicle; travel on foot and ‘thumbing’ were my options.  My pace increased as I walked north on NC 410, about 3 miles total, maybe more, past Zion Hill Church, and then through the woods (short cut) to home on Marshall Cain Road.  It helped me pick up my pace, late PM, early dark. Yep, I do remember.

Saw an interview with David Stern, former NBA commissioner recently.  Apparently, he was invited to discuss the upcoming NBA season, but all the early questions were related to the issue of kneeling during the national anthem.  He finally said, maybe not his words, but close; When are you going to ask me about what you told me you wanted to talk about?

‘Cry Out America’ sponsors will hold the annual get-together Monday, 6 PM on the lawn of the Bladen County Courthouse.  According to sources, they will recognize Fallen Heroes, American Veterans and Honored Guests.  Everyone is invited.

MLB results: Yankees 5-0 over Astros and in the National League Cubs 3 – Dodgers 2.  Winners of each series will advance to World Series.

Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it.  Mark Twain

My dream is of a place and a time where America will once again be seen as the last best hope of earth.  Abraham Lincoln

If we ever forget that we are One Nation Under God, then we will be a nation gone under.  Ronald Reagan
