Thoughts While Shaving
Spread the love

Thoughts While ShavingThe Foxglove Garden Club has provided a beautiful Christmas tree for all to enjoy at Cape Fear Farmers Market.  Helps to brighten the day for many and get us all in the Christmas Spirit.

Yesterday was a busy day for this senior citizen, with emotions all over the board.  Began with an inspirational meeting at Tar Heel Baptist Church.  David Chesnutt of Carolina Crossroads was the speaker.  He and his staff are doing amazing work with male alcoholics and drug abusers seeking help.  Check their website.  They operate on faith and small bucks, but help many.  He stressed the need for a similar ‘help center” for females.  Their address is Southeastern Carolina Crossroads, 1086 Susie Sand Hill Road, Elizabethtown.  Their telephone numbers are 910-549-8487 and 910-588-4345.  Additional info on their website.  Chesnutt said their monthly budget is about $14,000 and they rely entirely on contributions.  That’s faith.

Incidentally, a headline attributed to DA Jon David was “Human trafficking is a reality in the Cape Fear Region.”  That bit of sad news is likely to have been lost in all the national news of the day.

Last night had the pleasure of renewing contact with so many I worked with for 25 years at NCACC, a support group for county governments in NC.  Patrice Roesler retired after 40 plus years and will lead education efforts for county commissioners at the School of Government at UNC.  They couldn’t do better.  The reception was held in Raleigh.

I am glad I live in Bladen County.  Traffic bumper to bumper traveling like they were headed to or from for a fire, or a storm or someone threatening their life, 3 lanes wide, more some of the time, and running about 15 miles an hour over the speed limit.  One Bladen County senior citizen was running with the crowd.

On a sad note, my walking ‘buddy’ for 27 years died early yesterday.  Janice Johnson suffered over 3 years, bed-ridden after a near fatal vehicle accident on September 11, 2014.  She was a good Christian lady. All who knew her loved her.  Check our Obit page for her arrangements.

Political activity beginning to pick up.  Fundraiser for Sheriff McVicker yesterday, no doubt candidates for many local, state and national offices preparing for filing season early next year.

Bladen County Commissioners meet Monday at the Courthouse.  Election of chair and vice chairman will be among the first items on the agenda.

Have the stats for BladenOnline for November, will share soon.  They are GREAT.

Be courteous to all, but intimate with few; and let those be well-tried before you give them your confidence.  George Washington

Look to be treated by others as you have treated others.  Publius Syrus

Never part without loving words to think of during your absence. It may be that you will not meet again in this life.  Jean Paul Richter

One more: be nice to all on your way up and they will be nice to you on your way down.
