Thoughts While ShavingThink it is cold now, wait until tonight and Saturday night.  Forecast for tonight (Friday) is 11 degrees and drops to 9 degrees Saturday night. Low last night in mid-teens.  Cannot remember when temperatures were so low for as long as this one is expected to last.  Some relief expected on Monday and I am ready.

Never a good time for repairs or replacements, but when they are needed, good to have experienced folks ready to assist, like when the blower motor on our heating system stopped, yesterday (Thursday), worn out and temperatures outside were very low.  Thanks to Cape Fear Heating and Cooling for assistance.  Still work to do, but we are moving forward.  There are others, reputable companies doing similar chores.  Thanks to all for your efforts.

Plumbing and heating business should be good, in the days and weeks ahead.  Beware of con artists.  As stated above, we have experienced, reputable, local folks who have been around for years.  Johnny-come-lately ones may come calling.  Check references.

It will not be business as usual today.  Call ahead and make sure the business/shop is open before venturing out in the cold.

Reminder, today is the last day to pay local property taxes before a penalty is added.  Hold the complaints!  I repeat, bills were received last July and August, they were due in September, penalties added after January 5th.  It’s a North Carolina law, not a Bladen County law or rule, and can only be waived by state authorities.

Schools are closed today. Hopefully, next week will be better, weather wise.  But, when I was in public schools, days like today were welcomed.  Never dreamed I would have to make them up.  Enjoy today, tomorrow will take care of itself. Marriage and a family helped change that way of thinking.

Sharks are as tough as those football fans who take their shirts off during games in Chicago in January, only more intelligent.  Dave Barry
