Time is marching on. Just a week left in January 2018 and despite bone-chilling weather the first half of the month, past few days have been great and the forecast thru the end of the month is good. Highs in the 50s and 60s and lows from the upper 20s to mid 50s.
Must have been a scary situation late yesterday when a bank robbery occurred in Lumberton and a wild chase followed. Reports indicate the route of the robbers extended into Columbus County, some reports included Bladen. Law enforcement officers using helicopters are apparently still searching an area near the Boardman-Evergreen area of Columbus County. Four individuals apparently robbed the PNC bank mid afternoon. Two apparently jumped from a vehicle during the chase and two continued in the chase, firing weapons along the way. Law enforcement officers from Robeson, Columbus, Bladen and Brunswick are reportedly involved in the search.

Those were no such problems when I was in school. Chewing gum or slipping away to a nearby store for a coke and pack of nabs, were serious problems. Mr. Ippie Pait was the person in charge of the Bladenboro High School detention class. Not sure how many times I wrote, “I will not chew chewing gum in class again”, at least 100 times, each time. Could do that using 2 or 3 pencils in a short time. But Mr. Pait was to smart for that. Then he instructed us to write….”A gum chewing boy and a cud-chewing cow, there is a difference you must allow. What is it?, Oh, I have it now….it’s the faithful expression on the face of the cow” 100 times. Multiple pencils could not squeeze it all on one line. And, if mom and dad knew about misbehavin’ at school, there would be additional punishment at home.
