Thoughts While ShavingRecently attended a meeting where security of places of worship was the topic of discussion.  Very interesting, and if you would like to have such a presentation at your church or place of worship, call the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office.  Excellent presentation and the topic is timely.

Have mentioned the upcoming filing season for candidates for various political positions at the local, state and national level.  Here are a few of the positions we will be voting on in the upcoming primary:

County Commissioner, three seats and current office-holder:
District 1      Arthur Bullock
District 2      Charles Ray Peterson
District 3      Russell Priest

Board of Education:
County-wide         Vinston Rozier
Tim Benton
Dennis Ray Edwards
District 1               Gary N. Rhoda
District 2               Roger Carroll
District 3               Alan T. West

Clerk of Court         Niki S. Dennis
Coroner                  Hubert Kinlaw
Register of Deeds  Beverly Parks
Sheriff                    James (Jim) McVicker

And there are others, including, NC House, NC Senate and US Congress.

Think you have what it takes and you would like to serve. Beginning Monday you can file for the office of your choice. Check with the Bladen County Board of Elections for details, call or visit.  They can provide all the information including the time of day when you can begin filing. Think it is noon, but check with the office to be sure.  The filing deadline is February 28.

Not recruiting for any office or against any incumbent, but new blood is always the lifeline of any organization.  We will know more soon about who is interested, incumbents and newcomers.  Win or lose, nothing like running for a political office.  Get to meet those that agree with you and those that do not.

Remember when some candidates passed out penny candy when they visited?  No one that I am aware of has done it recently.  May be because there is no longer any penny candy.

Attended a couple of meetings yesterday, both interesting.  Meeting No. 2 was with my former co-workers at the NC Association of County Commissioners.  Most have been retired for sometime.  Enjoyable, good folks.  We met in Southern Pines, neat place.
