The Bladen County Educational Foundation is sponsoring their annual Jail-A-Thon today. You may be arrested and held ’til you pay your fine. It’s a annual event and proceeds benefit our Bladen County students and teachers.
The 29th annual Bladen We Care’s Gala/Dance will be held tomorrow (Friday) at The Venue, White Lake from 7-11 PM presented by Smithfield Foods. Blackwater Ryhthm & Blues Band will provide the music. Saturday, friends of Alvin Butler are sponsoring a BBQ fundraiser at Center Roads Baptist Church, near West Bladen High School. the actual location is 2484 Center Roads Rd, Bladenboro. Mr. Butler lost his wife and all his belongings in a fire that destroyed his residence. Church congregations in the area are involved. Donations only for the BBQ plates, cakes and other desserts will be on sale. That’s Saturday, April 21 beginning a 11 AM. Call 874-3531 for more info.
In our system of government, there are all types, loud, boisterous, huge egos, a few of the quiet type. Then there are real leaders, who do not hold office, never cast a vote, never brag or boast, respected by all. Barbara Bush falls in the second category. Maybe the most respected of the Bush family. She spoke her mind when the occasion needed a thoughtful spokesperson, she defended members of her family. She was just Barbara, and the nation loved and respected her. She died earlier this week, a good lady.
