Thoughts While ShavingThe rain came down, much needed rain and amounts appeared to vary greatly, between just over 1.5 inches at  Curtis Brown Airport, to nearly 2.5 inches at the unofficial site in the Hester’s backyard southwest of Elizabethtown.  There is a 30 percent chance of rain today and again tomorrow

35 years ago (1983) the #1 country song, “Islands in the Stream” a collaboration between Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton.  Another huge hit was Houston (Means I’m One Day Closer to You), by Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers.

According to Billboard magazine, the Top Hot 100 pop songs of 1983 were “Every Breath You Take” by The Police and “Billie Jean” by Michael Jackson.

Many folks asking questions about what will go on the lot on south Poplar Street, old bank building and former BBQ & Chicken site.  Erin Smith ask the owner, we still don’t know.  Good conversation topic.

Another 400 to 500 jobs coming to Bladen over the next few months, most at Smithfield Foods, but not all.  If you don’t have a job, don’t want a job, better hide.  Looking for work, check with Employment Security office, near E-town Primary School or independent temporary employment offices.

Early voting continues.

This election could come down to just a handful of votes.  It could come down to just one vote.  Vicky Hartzler

The monied interests are doing what they do best – making money.  The rest of us need to do what we can do best – use our voices, our vigor and our votes.  Robert Reich

Politics in a democracy is transactional: Politicians seek votes by promising to do things for voters, who seek promises in exchange for their votes.  George Will
