Thoughts While Shaving

Thoughts While ShavingYesterday (Thursday) was a great day for organizers, supporters, and for many with medical needs in Bladen County.  No doubt, the 29th Annual Bladen We Care – Byron H. Gooden Memorial Golf Tournament was among, if not the most successful fundraiser ever for the group, About 200 golfers participated, and to many volunteers to count.  Proceeds will benefit the entire Bladen County community.  Brenda Gooden, long time volunteer and supporter, was remembered for her many efforts over the years.  She passed away recently.

The weather was great, and the cooperation of so many was evident.  Too soon to know the actual amount raised, that will be announced at a later date.  Bladen We Care sponsors two fundraisers annually, both within a week of each other.  The other was the Gala/Dance at White Lake last week.  It too was well attended.

With the fundraisers for 2018 behind, attention is again focused on medical needs of many Bladen County residents with limited resources.

If you are not a golfer or could not attend the Gala but would like to support Bladen We Care, you can mail contributions to Bladen We Care, PO Box 1569. Elizabethtown, NC 28337.  They are welcomed year round.

Glaring headlines related to a couple of court cases:  “Jury awards plaintiffs more than $50 million in Historic Hog Nuisance Lawsuit” and “Bill Cosby Found Guilty of Sexual Assault in Retrial”, two cases that have been in the courts for many years, and most likely will be for years to come.  I am not an attorney, I guess they can be appealed.

One more highlight worth noting (no doubt there are many), our granddaughter is in ECU dental school.  Morgan Hester is completing her second year and recently provided a patient with her (Morgan’s) first set of dentures.  Both patient and provider were excited, as well as there families.

Our greatest weakness lies in giving up.  The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.  Thomas A. Edison

Giving frees us from the familiar territory of our own needs by opening our mind to the unexplained worlds occupied by the needs of others.  Barbara Bush

Remember that the happiest people are not those getting more, but those giving more.  H. Jackson Brown, Jr.
