Thoughts While Shaving
Spread the love

Thoughts While ShavingTreatment of the water at White Lake is underway, have been told it began Wednesday and continued yesterday.

When I think of White Lake, I think of those who saw a bright future for the property and guided the development over the years.  One of the key figures was Harry Womble, recently deceased.  He and his brother came from Goldston, in Lee County.  Another was Bill Corbett, also deceased.  There were many others I am sure.

The property around the lake and the sales tax collected from tourist is big-time money for the Town of White Lake, but a substantial source of revenue for Bladen County government as well.  A healthy lake is very important to all.

Mr. Harry was a quiet sort of leader for many years, he lived a long, productive life and many will enjoy the fruits of his labor for years to come.

Huge crowd at the lake last evening for an annual event sponsored by Clark Bros.  Several hundred, including at least one congressman, a former congressman and at least one who wants to be a congressman, numerous state and local leaders, elected and just plain ‘joes’, like myself.  My one time of the year to enjoy shad and shad roe and have the opportunity to rub shoulders with longtime friends and many I never met before.  One of my all time favorites, Dr. Jerry Wallace, former Elizabethtown Baptist pastor, and long time President of Campbell University,  is a regular.

A friend who travels in a much larger circle than most, tells me the use of drones and driverless vehicles for delivery is moving forward at a faster pace around the nation and the world than many are aware of.

Can’t think of a young man with a brighter future than Scott McCreary, the country singer.  Did not let his musical career stop him from continuing his education at NC State, has new country music destined for the top of the charts, and has, or will soon marry his high school sweetheart.  Can you imagine?
