Thoughts While Shaving
Spread the love

Thoughts While ShavingBeen on the road for a few days, happy to be home.  Met a lot of new friends up and down I 95.  We cozied up to one another traveling about 80 MPH, most of the time.  Not one of my favorite speedways, but thankful it is there.  No stoplights, and lots of people in a hurry, and I made every effort to not slow anyone down.

Major League All Star results…..American League 8-Nationals 6.  American League scored 3 in top of 8th, National League scored 2 in bottom of 9th, but not enough.

Check NWS rain gauge at Curtis Brown Airport.  Not sure if 1/2 inch or 1 inch, but we had pretty good rain, last evening.  Guess I was ‘stirring’ too early.

Amazed that despite “pretty good” rainfall at the Hester household, many nearby areas are suffering, and that appears to be the story in many locations across the state.

A fundraiser is being held for Joey Taylor on August 1 at the Elizabethtown Presbyterian Church.  Joey has been suffering from cancer for a couple of years or more and the bills continue to ‘mount up’.  The Deep Run native moved to Bladen County several years ago, moves quietly around the area doing his job, one of the good guys. Menu includes Baked Ziti from 5 to 7 PM for $10 a plate, at the church.  There will also be a silent auction.

MacKenzie Gore, set a new career high for strikeouts Sunday in a pitchers’ duel in Peoria, Ill.  His team lost to the hometown team 2-1.  Gore recorded 10 strikeouts in 5 innings.  The former Whiteville Wolfpacker appears to be ’rounding into shape’ after spending much of the first half of the season on the DL due to blisters on his pitching hand.  He signed with the San Diego Padres last year and is playing for the Fort Wayne Tincaps.

Meanwhile, former East Bladen Eagle, Sincere Smith, who signed with the NY Yankees earlier this month, is getting limited playing time with their Gulf Coast West team.  Has played shortstop in 4 games and has 8 at bats.

Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do.  Pele
