Did you see the pictures circulating on the Internet of the logs in the Cape Fear River near Tory Hole Park, beneath US 701 highway bridge?  An interesting situation.  A ‘mess’ would be a better description.

Over 1200 cyclist will be visiting Elizabethtown Friday, October 5th.   Elizabethtown was chosen as a host town for this year’s ride from the mountains to the sea.  Elizabethtown-White Lake Chamber of Commerce is taking the lead role and volunteers are needed.  The main area for this event will be located behind Town Hall.  King Street will be blocked off between Town Hall and Leinwand Park.  Folks will be sleeping in hundreds of tents all over the grounds at the park with indoor camping inside the County Parks and Recreation Building (the old Elizabethtown Gym)  The PAC building at the Elizabethtown Presbyterian Church will serve as headquarters for their catered meals.  Bikes and bikers will cover the area.  Info courtesy of Dawn Maynard, Chamber exec.

Roadways are slowly returning to normal, still much repair work remains to be done, but most are passable.

Still feels like summer, but bet we have a ‘cool snap’ before Halloween.

Mark your calendar for Best Fest in Bladenboro.  The dates are Friday & Saturday, October 26 & 27.  Older residents remember the Bladenboro vampire of 1953.
