Early voting is coming to a close. It ends Saturday, November 3,
at 1 PM. Only one early voting site in Bladen County, at the library in Elizabethtown. General elections will be held Tuesday, November 6, at all 17 voting sites in the county.
Vote, by all means vote, regardless of political persuasion, vote for the candidates of your choice, but vote. If you fail to do so, shame on you.
Had too much time on my hands recently and googled NC State Board of Elections and checked candidates information related to how much was being raised and spent. Not naming names. One area State Senate candidate had raised nearly $700,000 for a position that pays an annual salary of $13,951. The salary number is misleading, numerous other ways they are compensated, legally. For instance, the President of the NC Senate, in 2015 reported a total compensation package of $84,481. For rank and file, the compensation range was from $20,659 for a Wake County legislator to $58,002 for one who traveled a long distance.
Discovered several House and Senate candidates reporting dollars raised in the range of $100,000 to a half million dollars. Can not imagine! The forms are law and must be reported. See for yourself, go to the NC Board of Elections website and look for campaign reports, may be under another title, just look ’til you find it. Not sure if federal candidates file with the state or with a federal agency.
Oh well, if you dig too much it gets a little discouraging. It’s the world we live in, in fact the best place in the world to live, but, not perfect.
Check the US Debt Clock from time to time and then listen. Political party out of power uses scare tactics, party in power has many explanations, but clock runs faster. Then they reverse strategy when parties change. Nothing has really changed over the years except who is complaining and those explaining….
