Thoughts While Shaving
Spread the love

Thoughts While ShavingWoke up early thinking about so many activities going on and some good folks. and long, long ago……

Edgar Evans, former Bladenboro Mayor died after many years of suffering medical issues.  He was the ‘E’ at J & E service station in Bladenboro for years, but he was more….came from a good family, he and his bride produced a good family.  He was a good public servant (longtime Mayor of the ‘Boro).  You expected and he did not fail to deliver a firm handshake and greeting when you met him.  He is survived by a good family…. I was fortunate to call him my friend.

Remember NASCAR’s Silver Fox?  David Pearson, a NASCAR Hall of Famer died this week.  He was best known for his duels with the likes of Richard Petty.

Wonder what ever happened to Mark Martin?  He retired several years ago, and like so many others, ‘dropped out of sight’.

Ever wonder what the average life span is?  In 2015, according to one report, the average life span in the US was 80 to 82.5.  That’s scary, ’bout use up my time.  But, some die young and some of us live longer.  That’s what produces an average, I guess.

One final reminder of the Shriner’s Fish Fry today…two locations, at the Food Lion parking lot in Elizabethtown and the Fresh Foods parking lot in Bladenboro from 11 AM ’til 7 PM.  Proceeds benefit Shriner’s hospitals for children.

Comments from the early 1960s…..

“I’ll tell you one thing, if things keep going the way they are, it’s going to be impossible to buy a week’s groceries for $20.”

“If cigarettes keep going up in price, I’m going to quit.  A quarter a pack is ridiculous.”

“When I first started driving, who would have thought gas would someday cost 29 cents a gallon!  Guess we’d be better off leaving the car in the garage.”
