Thoughts While Shaving

Thoughts While ShavingA new planting season is underway.  The recent warm weather is helping the newly planted crops ‘spring forth.’  Let’s hope this growing season is good.  Last year, some crops were never harvested due to excessive rainfall and a year or two earlier, a drought caused the crop to be less than 100%.  Farming is a gamble.

Never see a farmer or worker following a mule or horse or both, pulling a two horse turn plow.  Most farmers no longer own a mule or horse,  and turn plows are now on display at an antique shop or in an old barn where few ever visit.

And speaking of days gone by, remember when you pulled into a service station for gas, and your were greeted by a human being who ‘pumped’ your gas and cleaned the windshield, may even check oil in your vehicle?  Robert’s Texaco, Inman’s, Robbin’s, Bill Ferguson’s and others in E-town.  J & E and Tater Shaw’s in Bladenboro, John Ward’s in Clarkton….They were others all over the county.  Those were the days my friend, we thought they would never change….but they did.

Check our Events and News section for numerous events county-wide this weekend.  May Day arrives Sunday.
