The Lady Gamecocks started fast and held on. UConn has been a powerhouse in the sport for many years, winning 4 times in the past 10 years.

Men’s championship on the line tonight … North Carolina vs. Kansas … Gametime 9:20 p.m. Kansas is a 4.5-point favorite … but the Tar Heels are capable of winning … The game will be televised on TBS.

Denny Hamlin was yesterday’s NASCAR winner, at Richmond. His 1st win of the 2022 season.

J.J. Spaun won his first PGA tour event yesterday, the Valero Texas Open. He finished 2 strokes better than Matt Jones and Matt Kuchar. He won $1,548,000 and will play in the upcoming Masters. Former Fairmont Golden Tornado William McGirt, still on the mend after a couple of surgeries, finished tied with several at minus 3 and won $22,308.

Corn plantin’ time in the area. Some farmers began planting last week. Farming is a gamble, betting no more freezin’ temps. Peanuts plantin’ time is a few days away. Checked the weather, there is a 10% chance of freezin’ temps as late as April 14.

Bladen We Care Memorial Golf Tournament is set for Thursday, April 28. Best to make sure of a starting time … lots of interest after a year off due to COVID-19. Proceeds benefit local residents who have unexpected health issues. Cost is $150 per entry, $600 per team. Return entry forms to Bladen We Care, PO Box 1569, Elizabethtown, N.C. 28337.
