I guess no topic is more important than the weather…

Patchy fog before 9 a.m. Otherwise, mostly sunny, with a high near 94.Mostly clear tonight, low around 74.

Sunday, (CHURCH DAY)…A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Mostly sunny and HOT with a high near 98…and a heat index as high as 112… chance of rain is 20%.

Temps for the next week or so….90 to 97 degrees… with 97 forecast for Monday & Tuesday…

Plans for today? Find a cool place and settle in… Only individual happy about hot weather must be Ron, the Iceman… Ice houses throughout the area…

Been having flashbacks… Thinking about barning tobacco… Hanging tobacco in a hot barn… legs stretched from one tier pole to the other and folks passing sticks of tobacco for me to hang in a hot, hot tobacco barn… Ever do that, if no… you missed an unreal experience… The only time I ever ‘monkeyed’, I was so hot I passed out after a fast departure and, with assistance… I ended up in the shade, under a tree outside… After a brief rest, someone asked if I thought I was ready to resume hanging. It was followed weeks later by harvesting corn, peanuts and cotton… At 14 years of age, I began looking for another way to make a few bucks… I started working part-time at HInson’s Super Market in Bladenboro… JZ and Sally Hinson… complete with air conditioning… Good move… I was spoiled…

Another “Thought”… Remember when we knew who delivered our mail? Our mailman was Mr. Johnny Mercer, Bladenboro, NC… He was neat, polite, on time and helpful… driving a new 4 door Ford sedan. I thought I wanted a job like that… I thought he was provided a new car annually… What I didn’t know was he traded his vehicle every year… Probably no air conditioning at that time… maybe yes… Long time ago… the 40s and 50s… Marshall Cain Road, a dirt road at that time, near Bladenboro…

I hope you find a cool spot and enjoy your Saturday…
