The new school year is underway for some students other than public … Opening of public schools is still a few days away…
School seldom began before Labor Day … many, many years ago when I was a student … So many families were involved in farming … Today, machinery and migrant labor are more likely involved.
Still some flooding near local rivers and streams…
Still living in the past … When we received our pay for summer work … farm crops had been sold … we purchased back to school wear … including flannel shirts … Pretty colors and hot, hot, hot, but we were proud of our new wear … So much for the past…
Politics is heating up … more so at the national and state level … Maybe I am so far removed … In the 50s, 60s and 70s, it was not uncommon to have a huge slate seeking to serve on local Boards of Commissioners, Board of Education and other offices … Today, a few … My first venture into the political arena, I think there were about 10 or 12 seeking 3 seats on the Board of Commissioners and a similar number for the Board of Education … My Good Ole Days…
Local tax notices received … A “whopping” 1% discount if paid before the end of August…
