A look back, before we move forward…

A salute to the folks at Abbottsburg Baptist Church who made the Hester family feel special Saturday … PM … Rev. Ronald Hester and his bride of 65 years (Betty Hester) were recognized … All their siblings were recognized … and all enjoyed a delicious lunch, compliments of some of the dedicated church members … very nice. The Rev. retired a few years ago, but has been leading worship for several years at the church … The Saturday event was special and appreciated…

The weather recently could be best described as hot and dry … High Sunday was 90 at the local weather station … and a late shower Sunday night totaled about 1¾ inches at the local weather station…

Sunny, today (Monday), with a high near 89. Tonight … A 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly between 7 p.m. and 2 a.m. Partly sunny with a low around 67.

Tuesday, sunny with a high near 86 … Wednesday … Sunny with a high near 84 … Thursday … Sunny with a high near 83 and the same for Friday…

Bladen County Commissioners meeting tonight … usual place, usual time … Courthouse at 6:30 p.m.

East and West Bladen high school football teams participated in scrimmages recently … Regular season play begins … Friday…
East Bladen vs. North Brunswick at Lenon Fisher Field
West Bladen vs. South Columbus at The Castle … both games begin at 7 p.m.

It’s harvest time … not sure about much of the corn crop … Dry weather during much of the growing season caused extensive damage in many areas of the county.

The National Democratic Party meeting begins today … Republicans met earlier … The election will be held the first Tuesday in November…

Bladen County public schools begin their new year a week from today … August 26. Other schools opened a week or two ago.

The PGA winner yesterday was Hideki Matsuyama…

Rain forced the NASCAR Cup Series race in Michigan to be completed today (Monday) … If my info is correct, Chase Elliott was the leader when the race was halted…

Coach Robert Linwood Hedgepeth was inducted into the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame over the past weekend. Hedgepeth, now retired, was one of the best high school and American Legion coaches anywhere. He retired several years ago.
