‘Bout this time of year I miss tobacco markets … For years, farmers would plant, replant, harvest tobacco and sell it at warehouses throughout the area … Clarkton, Chadbourn, Lumberton, Whiteville, Fairmont and more … The auctioneers and buyers would go row by row, selling each pile separately … Over the years, that part of our system ‘died’ … changed … maybe for the better, but it was fun to witness…
Bladen We Care continues to ‘pass-out’ checks’, proceeds from their annual golf tournament … Winners are community groups that support the needy, our higher education facilities and students who receive scholarships assisting them in preparing for a career … It makes a difference … a huge difference … A worthy, worthwhile cause…
