Thoughts While ShavingI am thankful there was little, if any. serious damage from the Monday/Tuesday statewide storm … Could have been very bad…

On the positive side, we did receive about .33 inches of rain … The strong wind was tough, but short-lived. I took a brief ride yesterday afternoon … saw no serious damage … and heard of none…

Temps have been in the low to mid 90s for the past week or more and more are in the forecast…

Sunny, today, with a high near 94, little if any wind. Tonight … partly cloudy, with a low around 74.

Thursday … Showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 93 … wind gusts as high as the mid 20 mph range … Chance of precipitation is 60%…

Spent some time at White Lake yesterday … small crowds … no long lines at the eating places … When children return to school, the week long traffic is affected…

Several important events this weekend … will mention a few … The Clarkton Lions Club is sponsoring a blood drive, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, August 12 at the Clarkton Fire Department … Each donor will receive a gift card which can be redeemed at numerous locations … Walmart, Lowes, Dominos, and more … and you will be helping a very good cause…

A Fish Plate Sale is planned in Bladenboro … Friday, August 11 … 10 a.m. ’til all sold out … includes fish, baked beans, slaw, bread and dessert at Bladenboro Church of God, 702 W Seaboard Street … $12 per plate … Pick up and delivery available…

East Bladen High School football team will be participating in a football scrimmage this evening at Scotland High … 4 teams are involved … 4 different scrimmages … then all 4 teams will will meet at midfield for a guest speaker … followed by a meal at the field house … Teams include, in addition to Scotland and East Bladen, Havelock and Union … There is a $5 admission fee for the scrimmage…

Apparently the Dan Allen’s are on an excursion across the lower US, Oklahoma, Texas and more … Great report posted on Facebook … Dan the traveler…

A date to mark on the calendar … The 17th Annual North Carolina Grape Festival is set for Lu Mil again this year … Admission is free … among the activities is a grape stomping … Free … Friday, October 14. All are invited…

I long for the day when members of U.S Congress stop bashing each other and work together for the common good of all … not likely … Disagreements … I understand … When I was in grade school … teachers stressed no fighting … no calling others bad names … talk the issue out … and agree to disagree, but no bashing…

We are hearing much about ‘inventory shrinkage’ … stealing, shop lifting … causing serious issues for some companies … in America. Sad…

Washington Nationals 5 – Philadelphia Phillies 4 yesterday … MacKenzie Gore of Whiteville is today’s starting pitcher for the Nationals … Game time is 6:40 p.m. in Philadelphia. Gore’s record is 6-8, 4.34 ERA with 120 strikeouts to date.
