Thoughts While ShavingThe filing deadline for 2016 elections is Monday, December 21 at 12 noon.  35,000 residents, over 20,000 voters and barely enough candidates to fill the ballot.  When local candidates ran county-wide, it was not unusual to have 10 to 13 or 14 candidates for county commissioner for either 2 or 3 seats, depending on the year.  Now, 6 vacant seats and 6 or 7 candidates.

Christmas shopping season is here.  Shopping at home, when possible, is good business.

The Hester household will apparently not be sending Christmas cards this year, unless they arrive today.  We have sent Guideposts cards for years.  This year, placed the order over 2 months ago…Maybe should have used Amazon.  Not sure about Guideposts cards, but am told order today and have items delivered to the home in 48 to 72 hours.  Oh well, there is always next year.

Guess we are spoiled.  We live in a ‘right now’ world.  Great when it works…

A new restaurant in town.  Arby’s opened yesterday, located at the new Minuteman on South Poplar Street.
We really are fortunate to have so many good food outlets in the area.

For years I enjoyed spending time with some of Bladen’s finest, senior citizens.  Bill Ferguson, remember him, could always lighten the season with a tall tale, Paul Sessoms was an interesting individual, enjoyed spending some noon times with him in his engraving shop on East Broad Street.  Just a couple of many.

Have you seen the Shriners ‘Love for Children’ TV ads for Children’s Hospitals?  Very good.

Let us remember that the Christmas heart is a giving heart, a wide-open-heart that thinks of others first. George Mathew Adams

I wish we could put some of the Christmas spirit in jars and open a jar of it every month.  Harlan Miller
He who has not Christmas in his heart will never find it under a tree.  Roy L. Smith
