Thoughts While Shaving

Thoughts While ShavingIt is now official, winter has arrived, as of today.

Leaves are scarce on pear trees and dogwood trees, but there are still lots of berries around our house and the birds, mostly robins, are enjoying.

Guess we should all be on high alert.  Terrorists are playing havoc around the world.

Bladen lost a good man recently.  Rev. David Rutland has suffered various ailments over the past few months, maybe longer.  The retired marine and long time Baptist pastor suffers no more.  Our condolences to his family.

Fake news sites have been in the news recently, especially during the recent presidential election.  The first warning I remember came nearly a year ago, January 18, 2016.  In that warning, it was pointed out that fake/hoax news sites are satire sites that are not funny.  They are an attempt to play on gullible people who do not check sources and pass on the fake news to more gullible people.

Check the source of news sites, normally in the bottom left corner.  Google the site and see who is the originator.  Or, check Wikipedia or FactCheck for names of sites and how they work.  Supporters of both political parties used them to pass on ‘less than accurate’ news.  Many times they use names of legitimate organizations, but add a .com or play off in some other fashion to make it look legit.

Will be interesting to see if HB2 is reversed today.  Legislators are scheduled to return to Raleigh today, an unpredictable event in the recent past.

Remember those who provide services we take for granted year round.  Mail carrier, newspaper carrier, pastors, caregivers, etc., and others who provide an important service to or for us.

Live so that when your children think of fairness, caring and integrity, they think of you.  H. Jackson Brown, Jr.

Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.  Leo Buscaglia

Caring – about people, about things, about life – is an act of maturity.  Tracy McMillan
