Bladen County Emergency Services, along with NC Forestry Service, advise all to take precautions while burning and do not leave fires unattended. Many areas throughout the county still remain very dry, making outdoor fires extremely dangerous. Please delay open burning until significant rainfall has occurred. It may prevent an escaped fire.

Volunteers are attempting to add more Dixie Youth activities for youngsters in the 2 to 12 year old range. Tee ball for 2 & 3 year olds … Coach pitch, for Majors and Minors … 5 to 12 year olds, in the Tar Heel area. There is a cost per player to support the effort. I scan newspapers across the state … Headline, “ENC newspaper print cycle changes and more.” A regional publisher … of 5 newspapers in Eastern NC, in a news article, listed challenges and concerns in the years to come for “an ever-changing newspaper industry.” Should not be surprised … He laid out the difficulties of the business … We have seen others cutting back, going out of business … If you think that is the only one … when was the last time you heard local news on a local radio station … The world has changed … and maybe not for the better … but local news as we have known it is over, or will be soon…
Have a friend, not local, but not far away … who had his identity stolen, mid-year, last year … banking account, credit cards, mail, password, etc. Has taken months to recover and restore … Not much help from anyone, including law enforcement, postal service … and frankly not sure what they could do … The world as we have known is changing, fast … And too often the ‘bad guys’ are winning…
