Thoughts While ShavingOur early summertime weather is over for now … well for a few days … Temps over the past few days in the mid to upper 80s … Today, we will be back to normal … low to mid 50s…

The official forecast from the National Weather Service … A chance of showers today … cloudy with a high near 53 and a 50% chance of rain … Tonight (Sat.), a slight chance of showers (20%) before 8 p.m. Patchy fog after 1 a.m. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 44 and a slight breeze out of the north. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 67. Sunday night’s low around 53 … 80s return Monday, Tuesday and near 80 Wednesday … And a pretty good chance of rain mid week.

Speaking of mid week … March arrives Wednesday … Average high for March is 67 compared with 59 in February. Average low in February is 38, 45 for March … Recent weather has been anything but normal…

Remember when locally owned food stores delivered groceries … usually Friday afternoon and Saturday … Chain stores moved into the county … A&P in Elizabethtown was among the first in the area … Must have been in the 50s and 60s…

Remember locally owned feed and seed stores?

Remember when locals could ride the train … Not sure how long that lasted … From Bladenboro to Lumberton and beyond…

Before we know it, it will be vacation season … Lake, beaches and mountains are among the most popular destinations…

I understand Habitat for Humanity ceased operation locally, several years ago, now returning … More info later…

Concerned about the unrest in the US and around the world?
