Thoughts While Shaving for February 10

Pray for our nation and our leaders!

Someone recently shared the 1st part of a 4 part series on Dale Earnhardt, the Intimidator … the man who holds more than his share of NASCAR records … You either loved him or did not have any use for him … He died at the age of 49 in a wreck on the final lap of the 2001 Daytona 500 in what appeared to be just another wreck like numerous times before … just expected him to ‘climb out’ and wave to the crowd, but he didn’t, it was his last race … He had 76 NASCAR victories and seven championships. He wasn’t just a stock car racer … He was The Stock Car Racer … Dayton 500 begins a new season this weekend in Daytona … 20 years after Dale Earnhardt Sr’s untimely death.

When I think of NASCAR … I think of so many great personalities … Junior Johnson, Fireball Roberts, Lee and Richard Petty, Tiny Lund, and so many more … I could go on and on … In my early years I enjoyed going to Darlington or Rockingham … Thought I wanted to be a race car driver … Just another dream … anything to get out of a tobacco patch…

If it were a normal year, our attention would be on high school basketball playoffs and more … preparing for baseball, softball, soccer and other springtime activities … hopeful all will soon be back to the good old days … soon. Some activities are ongoing … stop and go type season…

Check our sports page … John Clark covers local sports like a recent frost, he is everywhere … My guess, he has been writing Bladen County sports articles for 40, maybe 50 or more years … and no one does a better job.

“Today I will do what others won’t, so tomorrow I can accomplish what others can’t.” Jerry Rice

“If what you did yesterday seems big, you haven’t done anything today.” Lou Holtz

“Self-praise is for losers. Be a winner. Stand for something. Always have class, and be humble.” John Madden

“SUCCESS isn’t owned, it’s leased. And rent is due every day.” JJ Watt.
