Spread the love

Thoughts While ShavingIt’s Thursday, my favorite day of the week. For years, my siblings and I along with spouses and, our neighbor, meet each Thursday evening to share time and food.  We move around from one nearby restaurant to another.  The food is usually very good, but the time together is the highlight of the evening.

Recently, I have had the pleasure of attending a  ‘greet and meet’ session with a group of friends in the Tar Heel area.  Some I knew, some I knew of, some I never met, but all are now my friends.  Not sure why, I do know who extended the invitation.  I appreciate the invite and enjoy very much.  Larry Sessoms and Brian Singletary are the ‘chefs’, most of the time.  Leon Martin provides the ‘blessing.’  The visit consists of tasty, simple food, lots of yarns, some that may have some evidence of truth shared by some good, down to earth, mostly current or former senior citizens from the area.  Occasionally, a few younger folks attend, reducing the average age substantially. There is unlimited seating around a homemade wood-fired heater under a tobacco barn shelter.  Never a dull moment.

In December, we enjoyed above normal temps and wondered when winter would arrive.  It has, and the cold weather is expected to ‘hang around’ for several days.  Lots of sun expected today, with highs in the mid 40s and lows tonight in the mid 20s.  High over the next three days….41, 38 and 35.  My walk this a.m. required a little extra effort, but worth it.

Operating a small business is, for the most part, a rewarding, but difficult task.  Owner-operators provide valuable services to our area.  Plumbers, electricians, fix-it type folks.

If you can’t dance, don’t blame the dance floor.

If you have food in the refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof overhead, and a place to sleep….you are richer than 75% of this world.

If you want something done, ask someone who is busy!
