Thoughts While ShavingHAPPY VALENTINE DAY….

To the males….hope you remembered, if no, the day is not over.

Bladen County Commissioners are putting in overtime as they prepare for the upcoming budget season.  And, for 3 of the 9 members, it is their first budget, the meetings must be helpful, but confusing.  County government is like an octopus, reaching into so many different type agencies. So much to think about and 35,000 residents looking over their shoulder, just want to get it right.  Actually, there are 4 new members, but one, David Gooden, served previously.

Dixie Youth baseball is still several months in the future, but plans for the 2017 season are underway.  Elizabethtown supporters recently held their annual fundraiser, now the 2017 NC DYB workshop is set for Saturday, February 18, at the Whiteville Rec Center beginning at 10 a.m.  The Umpire Clinic will be held Thursday, March 16, more on that later.  Questions??? Call Frankie Burney at 910-874-4488.

Seems there is more bad weather every year, tornados, floods and electrical storms, etc.  Guess we forget from one year to the next.

The Town of Elizabethtown is working on an ambitious plan to enhance recreation in the area.  One of the neatest towns in the state.  Hats off to the folks in charge.

Wingate University girls basketball team is enjoying another ‘great’ season.  With 4 regular season games remaining, Ann Hancock’s team is sporting a 19-4 over overall record, 15-3 in conference play.  Hancock, of Elizabethtown, has had a great 5 year run as head coach of her alma mater.
