Let me think for a minute … Temp at 5 a.m. today … 60 degrees … High today falling to 47 by late this afternoon … 90% chance of rain.
Tonight … Cloudy … low around 40 and windy.
Thursday … An 80% chance of rain mainly after 9 a.m. High near 43 and windy…
Thursday night … Rain and sleet likely before 2 a.m., then a chance of snow with a low around 29, strong north wind, gusts as high as 22 mph … 70% chance of precipitation.
Friday … Mostly sunny, with a high near 40.
Welcome to eastern North Carolina. I love calling Bladen County home…
Mentioned Ross Lennon recently. Ross passed away last weekend … life-long resident of the Bladenboro area. A little older than me, and at one time, we were ‘good buddies’. … Both moved in different direction … remained friends, but not close. He was someone who left a lasting impression. It was before he began dating Barbara, and I began dating my bride-to-be, in the late 50s and early 60s. He was a student at Campbell College, (later University) and I was bagging groceries at Hinson’s Super Market in Bladenboro. We just ‘hung out’ on weekends. … Load up his car, go to M. Nance’s BBQ near Butters and just have a good time … a soft drink, and ‘hang out’.
One story he shared had to do with song-writer and later recording artist and then student at Campbell … John D. Loudermilk … (Johnny Dee). Attending chapel at Campbell at that time was a requirement. According to Ross, Loudermilk wrote the song … ‘Sittin’s in the Balcony on the very last row’ during that time. … Neither were big on the requirement…
Sorry if I left you hanging … just one of many thoughts when I saw Ross’s obit. Good man … and one who left a lasting (good) impression … from days gone by.
I’ve learned … That the easiest way for me to grow as a person is to surround myself with people smarter than I am.
I’ve learned … That the less time I have to work with, the more things I get done.
I’ve learned … That life is tough, but I can be tough when I must be.
