Thoughts While ShavingHappy to begin a new week, last couple of days for January ’23…

NFL fans entertained yesterday … Finals for Super Bowl … Eagles and the Chiefs … 49ers had a tough day … All their quarterbacks on the sideline, due to injuries…

Super Bowl will be played in a couple of weeks, Sunday, February 12th.

Speaking of the end of January … Dow Jones Industrial Average increased from 33,138 on January 1st to 33,978 at close on Friday … +842 points … Good news for retirees and soon to be…

Been reminiscing, looking back … When was the last time you saw a new ‘smoke house’, a smoke house that houses pork for hog killins’? How ’bout a stable for a mule or horse, or both?

The landscape has changed … dramatically … No more new chicken houses where you could house a few laying hens … and a roster or two … Oh we are blessed with chicken houses and hog houses (mass production). I’m talking about where you shuck a few ears of corn, shell it and feed the chicks … keep enough to have a fresh egg for breakfast or to mix a cake … Trade what you didn’t need for a few cans of something you do need or want, maybe a 6 pack of Coke or Pepsi … A new smoke house where you store fresh pork … sausage, hams, shoulders, etc., it’s a thing of the past … Years ago those type buildings dotted the landscape … If you see one today, maybe an old tobacco barn, there is a good chance it’s leaning, waiting for a storm to blow it over…

Guess our next generation will never know … that the feed bags were our new shirts for males and skirts for the ladies … Just been thinking about changes … good and not so good.

Checking the weather … Showers likely before noon today, with a high near 62. Patchy fog after midnight, low around 48. Tuesday, a 30% chance of rain after 1 p.m. High near 63.

Our average high and low for January is 55 and 36. February, average high is 59, average low 38.
