Construction on the new Bladen County Detention Center continues. In fact, it is beginning to look like a jail. It’s located across from the Powell-Melvin Ag Center on Smith Circle, Elizabethtown.Robert Jessup of Greenville, formerly of Elizabethtown, an East Bladen and East Carolina grad, was recently promoted to Area Appraiser for the NCDOT Greenville Appraisal Office effective December 2016. He has a combined 32 years experience in the private sector and with NCDOT.
Major Charles “Vic” Ward of Whiteville is the new commander of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. He succeeds Colonel William J. Grey who retired from the Highway Patrol after serving more than 25 years.

The National Debt continues to grow and has for the past over 200 years. Don’t expect that to change. The current debt has passed $20 trillion, or will in the next few hours. The deficit rose to $587 Billion in FY 2016. One writer stated, “the most important thing to recognize about the $20 trillion debt is that its size in dollar terms is not as important as the fact that it is on an unsustainable track.” Another source indicated the debt is growing faster than the economy.
Scary, and no changes in sight.
Think it would be safe to say, we are living in troubled times.
