Thoughts While ShavingThe National Weather Service issued a Tornado Warning for Bladen County just before midnight last night that extended until 12:45 AM today.  The text of the warning: “At 11:58 a.m. Doppler radar indicated a severe thunderstorm capable of producing quarter size hail, damaging winds in excess of 60 mph and the possibility of producing a tornado located near Whiteville.  The storm is moving at 80 mph.  Locations impacted include: Elizabethtown, Clarkton and White Lake.”

Too early to know if there were any local damages.  The storm has moved off the coast.

Actually, another Tornado Warning was issued by the National Weather Service at 5:32 AM today til 6:30 AM EST.  Both warnings have expired and hopefully the ‘bad weather’ is over with no damage.

We return to regular schedule today following Christmas and New Years.  Don’t know about you, but I am looking forward to a normal routine.

Looking ahead, the 2017 Blueberry Open House & Trade Show will take place at the Cumberland Agri-Expo Center in Fayetteville on January 10 and 11.  It is the 51st annual event and should be of interest to all with a stake in the blueberry industry.  Blueberries are now the #1 cash farm crop in Bladen County, and North Carolina is 7th among 10 states in the US making up 98 percent of the U.S. commercial production.

Ethics took another hit in DC last night, as the new session begins.

Fake news sources are still operating, unreal ‘untruths’ for and against both parties and individuals still being posted.  And, many are forwarding information that matches their personal thoughts, and have no idea if their is a shred of truth or not.  Think back to something shared years ago, “I cannot build myself up by tearing others down.”

Could not help but think of how my mom celebrated the new year, not every year, but occasionally, ‘all the children’s system needed a cleaning out’, and ex lax and castor oil were two of her preferred remedies.

Words, expressions, items we seldom hear;  two horse turn plow, horse drawn peanut rake, single tree, horse collar, wood-fired stove, and dynamite.  Did you ever carve your initials, or those of your latest heartthrob, in a tree?  Wonder if they are still visible, 65 years later?

He who is without sin let him cast the first stone.

I am among men most richly blessed.

Be kind always.
